Goodbye

I have never been really good with goodbye's. It is always an awkward moment between me and the person/people I say goodbye to. The typical goodbye generally end the following ways: "Let's keep in touch"; "It was nice knowing you"; "Give me a call sometime"; and etc. However, you both know that you probably never see one another again. "Let's keep in touch" lasts maybe a week, or until you both get too busy too remember one another.

This time, although, most of the goodbye's I have said have been generic; some of them have been been really legitimate. The kind of goodbye that makes you sad that you are leaving this person. The kind of goodbye that you really hope you are able to keep in touch.

Even though I have made a lot of friends in Houston, there are several that I am going to miss very much. I know this will not be the last time we see one another, but knowing that I will not be a quick drive from them makes me sad.

New York City - a dream that I have conjured in my head since I was 14, is actually going to be a reality. Hopefully, you will not chew me and spit me out.

Apartment!

Four hours before our flight back to Houston, Matt and I found an apartment! When we signed the lease, I felt the anxiety/stress lift from my body. It is a $1300 one bedroom apartment in Astoria, Queens. We love the neighborhood, and it is very close to Manhattan.

I feel so fortunate to have such a supportive boyfriend. Sometimes I take it for granted, but it is not often to find someone who supports you and your dreams. We both know this is going to be an adjustment to our comfortable living we have established in Houston; however, to do great things in life, you have to take risk.

I am not exactly sure what the future holds, but I can only hope that this move will be the launch I need - both professionally and personally.

When will it end...

I probably should not be writing a blog, but I feel the need to vent out my frustrations. This week will be a tough one - on Thursday, I take my first section of the CPA exam. Unfortunately, I feel so unprepared (even after studying for nearly 1 1/2 months). We (Matt and I) will also be in NYC for the weekend looking for a place to live. I am worried that we will not find one. My glasses broke while I was studying for the exam; and quite honestly, I have no idea how it happened.

I can't help but ask myself:

WHAT THE HELL AM I THINKING?

Let's be serious for a minute here. A year ago, I bought shares of CHINA.COM at about $10/share. A couple of months after I bought it, I sold it with a loss of about $50. No biggie. Today, while watching India Business News on CNN I find out that CHINA.COM is now trading at $.05. I am so glad I sold it when I did. Now, fortunately I have no money in the market and is safely tucked a way in a money market account. Today the Dow closed at around 7550, it seems like it would be a perfect opportunity to buy but I am not ready to risk any of my retirement money on risky stocks.

Tennis

As I mentioned in my first post, after work my boyfriend and I enjoy playing tennis. After embarrassing ourselves in front of Japanese business men AND semi-pro players, we have tried to take our game up a notch. Oh, how we successfully failed. It is o.k. though, we are playing in the spirit of fun? right? Anyway, I hope I bring my A-game tomorrow. A group of interns are playing tennis tomorrow at Memorial Park. Let's be honest though, I will consider tomorrow's game successful if I do not hit the ball over the gate (or injure a jogger).

Nothing too interesting this week, just a lot of work and tennis. I am not going to complain, I like my pay check and I like not spending money. Although, I have to forfeit a dollar for tomorrow's game. I think I will live.

An Introduction

I created this blog to document a "new chapter" in my life. I am a recent college graduate soon-to-be graduate student at the University of Houston. I enjoy traveling, cooking, and midnight tennis games againist my boyfriend, Matt. I recently recieved a job offer from a "big four" accounting firm in New York City. Until my big move, I will be documenting my not-so-interesting life in Houston, Texas.
